Brunner mine site

This Monday we went to a place called Brunner Mine. It is an old site that had a big explosion that killed 65 men. Most were buried at the mass grave in the Stillwater Cemetery but some were burred at the Greymouth Cemetery because they are Catholic. Other people were buried at their family plots.

We had a really good time at Brunner thanks to the ladies from Shantytown we got to dress up and do role plays. We also did mimes from the book (the mines afire). We went for a walk around the Brunner site, looked at the site of the explosions and what used to be there. There was old coke ovens that had been turned into sheds, new beehive coke oven also we saw where the airway and where the air came in.

  1. Hi Callum

Sounds like you enjoyed your day at the Brunner Mine site. You all looked fantastic all dressed up. What scene from the book 'The Mines Afire' did your group mime? Remember to read through your sentences and check that they make sense?
Great layout of your blog post Callum.

    1. Hey Adam, my favourite part was the walk around the old coke ovens and going inside. My play group did the orphans going in the train to Otira that was fun. Thanks Callum
